Congress-Schladming – the perfect media centre for the World Ski Championships 2013
Due to the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in February 2013, different event locations in Schladming are being newly equipped at the moment.
As an epitome for this, Congress-Schladming can be mentioned; with an indoor capacity for 2,200 people, it will be used as the media centre.
Congress-Schladming is distinguishable due to modern architecture, environmentally friendly ecological HVACR (heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration), multifunctional use, gastronomic perfection and modern technique in the heart of Austria.
An emphasised transparent construction gives the building its unique character: the archetypical clearness of Alpine building mingled with contemporary (wooden) architecture constructed on solid building ground floor foundations. Domestic, renewable building material was used, an ambitious energy concept aims to CO2 neutrality. Congress-Schladming is a prime example for the leading role and competence of Austria and Styria in addressing current climate issues.
Congress-Schladming cooperates with „Energie Steiermark“ to bring forward energy innovations in the area of renewable energy. Congress-Schladming will establish a photovoltaic roof system with a performance of 20 KWpeak and an energy accumulation of approximately 20.000 kWh/a.
The existing pump line of the snow machine of the Planai will be used for a river water-cooling system that will be used for air-conditioning the rooms. This double use is both ecologically important and meaningful in an economic way.
To bring ecological thoughts to perfection, the heading system was connected to the network of Bioenergie Schladming; the company gains energy by exclusively using domestic, renewable resources.
For toilet flushes, it is planned to use wash water, and by installing waterless urinals a gentle use of potable water resources can be guaranteed.
Wood and domestic loden as vital materials give the interior a special atmosphere. An exciting arrangement of rooms presents surprising views of the fantastic surroundings. The unique mountain panorama plays the main part and is omnipresent for guests thanks to the open structure of the house.
Congress-Schladming will be used as media centre during the World Cup finals in March 2012 and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013. Equipped with state-of-the-art media technology, the premises meet all the expectations national and international journalists have in order to be able to guarantee ideal news coverage during the Alpine World Ski Championships.
Hard facts
Total construction space: | 3.575 m² |
Building:
River water-cooling:
via an existing pumping system (including a pressure line) of the “Planaibahn”(double use is ecological and economic)
return path of the water into the Enns river via an existing rainwater pipe
power input for Congress-Schladming: 900 kW
Via a decentralised heat exchanger the cooling energy of the cooling water is submitted to the cooling system of the building. After this, the water runs back into the utility shaft and back into the Enns river via the rainwater pipe.
Water reaching the river = max. 801/s = 10 % of the total capacity of the rainwater channel.
The system will mainly be used for recooling. In a water temperature the plant is used for direct cooling.
Heating:
Connection to the energy network of Bioenergie Schladming
Exclusive wood burning by the means of wood chips
Max. flow: 75 degrees Celcius
Max. return: 52 degrees Celcius
Wash water usage:
It is intended to use wash water from the roof drain for the toilet flushes. In the whole building, waterless urinals will be installed.
